As detailed in Chapter 35, many people held skeptical views about Sai Baba, primarily because they heard he asked for Dakshina, or monetary offerings. They operated on the principle that saints who accumulate wealth have diminished saintliness and that a desire for wealth makes one unworthy of salutation. Believing that blind faith is not good and that one must have a direct experience first, these individuals resolved to visit Shirdi but with a firm plan. They decided they would meet Sai Baba but would absolutely not bow at his feet or offer any Dakshina.
