Shri Sai Baba mentions that his Guru asked him for two paise. Does this mean his Guru was greedy for money, and what did these two paise actually represent?

📖 Chapter 19

This is an excellent question that addresses a common point of confusion. Chapter 19 clarifies that Shri Sai Baba's Guru was not interested in worldly money. Baba explains that his Guru was 'Purnakam' (one whose desires were fulfilled) and had no use for gold. The request for two paise was entirely symbolic. As revealed in Chapter 19, these two 'coins' were the essential virtues of Faith (Nishtha) and Patience (Saburi). By offering these qualities to his Guru, Baba demonstrated his worthiness as a disciple and pleased his master. This teaching highlights that the true currency in the Guru-disciple relationship is spiritual and not material.
