The preface in Chapter 0 makes a clear distinction between worldly and spiritual service. Writing the biographies of great worldly figures like politicians or historians is acknowledged as a form of public service. However, the author argues that this service is worldly, its importance is limited by time and space, and its fruit is not eternal because it is often rooted in self-interest. In contrast, writing the biographies of saints is considered a form of Guru service that yields spiritual fruits. The ultimate service, writing about one's own Sadguru, is presented as the path to the ultimate spiritual goal, which worldly service, despite its public benefits, cannot provide.
It seems contradictory to say writing biographies of saints is a spiritual act but writing about great politicians isn't. Isn't all service good?
