In Chapter 23, a Yogi doubted Sai Baba after seeing him eat onions. What was Baba's precise reaction and the significance of his words?

📖 Chapter 23

The story in Chapter 23 details an incident where a Yogi, seeking to achieve Samadhi, developed a strong misgiving when he saw Sai Baba eating bread with onions. He thought, 'How can this man remove my doubts?' Being omniscient, Sai Maharaj immediately perceived this internal doubt. He looked at Nanasaheb Chandorkar and said, 'Nana, only those whose digestion is strong should eat onion. One who has the strength to digest it may eat onion freely.' As Chapter 23 narrates, this statement was not about physical digestion but about the spiritual capacity to see beyond external appearances and digest the reality of a saint's unconventional behavior. The Yogi was startled, understood the inner meaning, and surrendered to Baba with true devotion.
