Chapter 50 explains that while the Vedic theorem "Only from knowledge comes liberation" is unassailable, there are significant obstacles to achieving it. Firstly, the text states that the dawn of knowledge is impossible without the destruction of sinful karma. Secondly, the entire illusion of name and form, known as Maya, is a major hurdle that is very difficult to cross. Thirdly, doubt, or 'vikalpa', is a powerful corrupting force; it is noted that even a supreme knower like Shuka suffered loss due to doubt. Finally, worldly attachments to wealth, luxury, wife, and sons can delude a person, covering their knowledge with ignorance.
If liberation comes only from knowledge, what does the Satcharita say are the main obstacles preventing a person from attaining that knowledge?
