It's true that Amir was forbidden from visiting the Masjid for nine months, but as Chapter 22 explains, the location of his stay in the Chavadi was such that he received Baba's vision automatically and frequently. He would get an easy darshan every morning as Baba passed by the Chavadi on His way for alms. In the evenings, Baba would come in front of the Chavadi to salute the directions. Furthermore, on the alternate days when Baba slept in the Chavadi, they were separated only by a nominal curtain and could talk with each other after the devotees left.
