I've heard Sai Baba was neither Hindu nor Muslim. What were some of the conflicting signs about his identity described in the Satcharitra?

๐Ÿ“– Chapter 7

Chapter 7 details the many paradoxes surrounding Sai Baba's religious identity, making it impossible to classify him. For instance, if one called him a Hindu, he physically resembled a Yavana (Muslim), yet if called a Yavana, he bore the noble marks of a Hindu. More specifically, his ears were pierced in the Hindu custom, but there was also evidence of circumcision, a Muslim practice. He resided in a mosque, a Muslim place of worship, but within that mosque, a sacred fire (Dhuni) burned day and night, bells and conches were used, and foot worship occurred, all of which are Hindu practices. These contradictions are presented to show that his holy incarnation was beyond such worldly labels.
