I read about a devotee named Kashiram being attacked. What exactly happened during that incident?

The story of Kashiram's attack is quite dramatic. He was accosted by thieves who believed a small bundle he carried held treasure. In reality, as Chapter 0 explains, it only contained powdered sugar which he carried to feed ants on the advice of a saint. This bundle was so dear to him that he refused to give it up. In the ensuing struggle, a thief dropped his sword, which Kashiram picked up and used to kill two of the assailants. However, a third thief then struck him from behind with an axe, rendering him unconscious.
