I'm trying to understand different spiritual practices. How does Chapter 49 rank things like pilgrimages, charity, and meditation on the Guru?

📖 Chapter 49

Chapter 49 of the Sai Satcharitra offers a distinct hierarchy of spiritual practices to guide devotees. It states that penance is considered greater than practices like pilgrimages, vows, sacrifices, or charity. Moving higher up, the singing of Hari's name is considered greater than even penance. However, the chapter places the meditation on one's own Guru as the "greatest of all" these practices. It reinforces this by stating that for His devotees, "Sai alone is the object of meditation" and "Sai alone is their worship of deities." This passage clearly establishes that in the path of devotion described, direct focus and meditation on the Sadguru is the most supreme and valuable spiritual activity one can undertake.
