I'm thinking of fasting to get closer to God. What was Sai Baba's view on fasting for spiritual reasons?

📖 Chapter 32

Sai Baba strongly advised against fasting as a means for spiritual attainment. As detailed in Chapter 32, he himself never fasted and would not permit his devotees to do so either. He believed that the mind of a fasting person is not peaceful, which hinders any potential spiritual benefit. The text explains that without food, the senses become weak and lose their capacity for devotion; one cannot see God, praise His glory, or hear His teachings on an empty stomach. Baba taught that one should "first satisfy the soul of the self" by eating, because finding God on a hungry stomach is unimaginable. He considered excessive fasting to be terrible and a cause of continuous discomfort.
