I heard Maharaj kept four lit lamps around him while he slept. What was the context for this? Was he on the ground?

๐Ÿ“– Chapter 0

The practice of sleeping with four lit lamps occurred during a specific period when Maharaj had a very unusual sleeping setup. As described in Chapter 0, the Masjid was quite run-down, so a devotee named Nanasaheb Dengle brought him a wooden plank. Instead of using it on the ground, Maharaj suspended it from the rafters with old rags and slept on the hanging plank. It was while sleeping on this elevated plank that he would place four lit lamps at the four corners. The rags were surprisingly strong enough to hold both the plank and Maharaj's weight.
