Damu Anna played a very specific and important role in the annual Ram Navami festival in Shirdi. According to Chapter 25, he had made a vow to provide one of the two large new flags that were taken out in a grand procession through the village. The other flag belonged to the Nimonkars. This was a regular vow he had maintained for many years out of love and devotion. The chapter explains that the procession would start from the house of Kondaji Sutara, the carpenter, and proceed with musical accompaniment, culminating in the long banners being tied to the two ends of the Masjid.
