I heard a story about Baba and a cough. How did he use this to show he knew what someone was thinking?

This story involves a devotee named Laxmichand. As narrated in Chapter 28, during the Chavadi procession one night, Sai Baba developed a cough. Seeing this, Laxmichand silently thought to himself that the cough might be the result of someone's evil eye. It was just a fleeting, private thought. However, the next morning when Laxmichand was in the masjid, Baba spoke, seemingly to himself but for all to hear, saying, "Yesterday I had much coughing; is this the effect of an evil eye?"
