How was Kashiram's life saved after he was attacked by thieves, and what happened in the aftermath?

Kashiram's survival was attributed to Maharaj's divine grace. After fighting robbers to protect his bundle of sugar and being struck down by an axe, he was left for dead. However, he was not dead and eventually regained consciousness. As Chapter 0 recounts, he had such immense faith in Maharaj that he refused to go to a hospital, insisting instead on being taken to Shirdi. Once there, he was treated by Madhavrao Deshpande under Maharaj's direct instructions and, by that grace, his health improved. For his courageous act of fighting the thieves, Kashiram was later honored with a sword as a gift from the Bombay government.
