How exactly did Sai Baba give Udi to his followers after the Aarti? Was it just a general distribution?

Chapter 20 describes the Udi distribution as a very personal and loving interaction. After the noon Aarti, Sai Baba would stand at the edge of the Masjid as devotees rushed to his feet. The process involved Baba filling his own hands with Udi and placing it into the cupped hands of each devotee. More intimately, he would also use his thumb to apply the Udi directly onto their foreheads, all while having boundless love in his heart for them. It was a very personal blessing for each person.
