How does the Shri Sai Satcharita compare to the older Guru Charitra in terms of composition and content?

📖 Chapter 0

The Shri Sai Satcharita and the Guru Charitra share some structural similarities but differ in key aspects. As detailed in Chapter 0, both sacred texts conclude with 53 chapters. However, Shri Sai Satcharita is a more extensive work, containing 9,450 verses compared to the 7,300 verses in Saraswati Gangadhar's Guru Charitra. Another significant distinction is the source of the narratives. While the stories in the Guru Charitra are considered reliable, we have no way of knowing if they were from the author's direct experience or gathered from oral tradition. In contrast, many of the leelas in the Shri Sai Satcharita were either witnessed by the author, Annasaheb, or were directly communicated to him by devotees, many of whom were still alive at the time of writing, lending them a unique immediacy.
