How does the concept of Prarabdha, or the fruits of past actions, feature in Dr. Pillay's story of suffering?

📖 Chapter 34

The concept of Prarabdha is central to understanding Dr. Pillay's ordeal as described in Chapter 34. Despite living a pure life and being a beloved devotee of Sai Baba, Dr. Pillay was afflicted with extreme pain. In his anguish, he articulated the very principle causing his suffering, acknowledging that "the fruits of past actions (Prarabdha) never fail" and that "There is no escape without suffering." He was so convinced of this karmic law that he was willing to take ten more births to exhaust his karma. Sai Baba's response validates this concept; He doesn't eliminate the karmic debt but instead offers to help bear it. By proposing to share the suffering for ten days, Baba demonstrates that while Prarabdha is unavoidable, a Sadguru's intervention can profoundly alter how and when its consequences are experienced.
