As explained in Chapter 0, the benefits are multifaceted and create a virtuous cycle. For the writer of a detailed poetic Guru biography, the act of writing is itself a form of 'Guru service'. Simultaneously, when other devotees study and perform 'Parayans' of that work, the writer gains the additional merit of serving 'God in humanity' (Jan-Janardan) and performing public service. For the devotees who study the text, they are also performing a service to the Guru and, in doing so, are helped to achieve the purpose of their own lives. This creates a powerful bond between the writer, the readers, and the Guru.
How does the act of studying a Guru's biography benefit both the individual devotee and the person who wrote it?
