According to the teachings in Chapter 17, the path to transcending worldly inclinations, or *Samsara-pravrutti*, is through gaining knowledge of the Self, as no other means will work. This knowledge brings about the cessation (*Nivrutti*) of the world. Chapter 17 explains that when the tendency of the bodily ego dissolves, this state of cessation is instantly established. This is described as the soul's true state of the Supreme Self, where one is devoid of ego and beyond concepts like good and bad, or dharma and adharma. In this state, worldly affairs of benefit or harm hold no interest.
