According to Chapter 50, Brahman is originally described as extremely pure and the form of Consciousness (Chinmatra). However, it becomes 'qualified' (shabal) because it is qualified by Avidya, or ignorance. This qualification is what allows Brahman to be given the name 'Sat' (Existence) and to become 'graspable by the intellect,' eventually taking form through the 'Omkar'. It is crucial to understand this dynamic because the world we perceive is itself the characteristic form of this Avidya-Maya. Therefore, to see reality and attain liberation, one must first discern and understand ignorance to move aside these veils by the 'power of instruction' and realize the target Brahman, which is entirely separate from its expressed, qualified form.
How does ignorance, or Avidya, impact the pure nature of Brahman, and why is it so important to understand this?
