How does Chapter 23 explain the human condition of suffering and the recommended path to overcome it?

📖 Chapter 23

Chapter 23 of the Shri Sai Satcharitra explains that the soul is inherently beyond qualities, possessing a true nature of Existence-Consciousness-Bliss (Sacchidananda). However, it becomes deluded by Maya, forgets its true self, and identifies with the body, leading to the prideful thought, "I am the doer." This delusion results in distress and a succession of calamities. The chapter clearly states that the only way to calm these troubles and find an escape is through loving devotion (Bhakti Yoga) at the feet of the Guru, who can guide the devotee back to their true nature.
