How does Chapter 17 illustrate the choice between the path of the good and the path of the pleasant, and what analogy is used?

📖 Chapter 17

In Chapter 17, the choice between Shreya (the good) and Preya (the pleasant) is presented as a critical one, though difficult for a dull-witted person who is easily conquered by Preya. The text uses a powerful analogy to illustrate how a wise person makes this choice. It compares the mixture of Shreya and Preya to a blend of water and milk. A swan, or 'Maral', is said to drink only the pure milk from this mixture. Similarly, as Chapter 17 explains, courageous and intelligent individuals cling only to Shreya, turning away from Preya, which appeals to those obsessed with worldly objects, wealth, and status.
