How does Chapter 17 describe the beginning of the spiritual journey and the main obstacles one must overcome?

๐Ÿ“– Chapter 17

As detailed in Chapter 17, the spiritual journey often begins when a person becomes exhausted by the suffering and unendurable torments (Tritapa) of worldly existence (Samsara). By great fortune, this exhaustion leads them to question how to stop the cycle of existence, which is when true human effort (Purushartha) is born. The chapter identifies several major obstacles on this path. The primary one is beginningless ignorance, or Maya, which is described as a false imposition and as illusory as a mirage. Furthermore, the text states that desires, hopes, and cravings for both seen and unseen enjoyments are obstacles that must be dug out by their roots.
