How do ego, detachment, and knowledge interact on the path to liberation described in the text?

📖 Chapter 19

According to Chapter 19, the journey to liberation involves a specific sequence concerning ego, detachment, and knowledge. As long as a person maintains an ego identified with the body, intellect, and mind, they are trapped in the role of a 'doer' and 'enjoyer,' making the experience of pleasure and pain unavoidable. To break this cycle, detachment is essential. This detachment arises when the mind begins to perceive the world as transient and illusory, like a dream or a 'false play of Maya.' Only with this cultivated detachment can one attain true knowledge, which is the 'science of the oneness of the Self.' The text emphasizes this dependency by stating, 'There is no liberation without knowledge, and knowledge is not attained without detachment.'
