How did the villagers and authorities react to Sai Baba's three-day trance, and how did their views conflict?

📖 Chapter 44

The reaction to Sai Baba's trance in 1886 was one of initial shock and amazement, with the whole village gathering to witness the event. As detailed in Chapter 44, Baba's body became completely motionless, with no breath or pulse. After two days passed without change, opinions became sharply divided. Some, including Maulvis, Mullas, Fakirs, Appa Kulkarni, and Kashiram, concluded that Baba had passed away and decided it was time to "give rest to the body." However, another faction argued against this haste, insisting that "Baba’s speech is infallible" and they should wait the full three days as he had stated. This created a deep conflict between those who trusted empirical evidence and those who held onto faith in Baba's words.
