When the village women saw Sai Baba grinding wheat, four of them rushed into the mosque, took the handle from him, and began grinding themselves while singing his praises. According to Chapter 1, their minds were filled with greedy thoughts, as they speculated that Baba, who lived on alms, would surely give the flour to them. They were already mentally dividing it amongst themselves. However, their expectations were shattered when Baba chastised them for their greed, asking if they were taking their "father's property."
