How did the tradition of the Ram Navami fair in Shirdi begin?

📖 Chapter 0

The annual fair in Shirdi was first proposed by the devotee Gopalrao Gund, who wished to hold a Jatra or Urs in Maharaj's honor. As detailed in Chapter 0, he presented the idea to Tatya Patil, Dada Kote Patil, and Madhavrao Deshpande, who supported it. The plan faced initial opposition from the local Kulkarni, resulting in a collector's order against the fair, but an order to proceed was eventually obtained. It was by Maharaj's direct command that the fair was decided to be held on the day of Ram Navami, a tradition that has continued ever since. During this fair, two large ceremonial flags are brought in a procession to the Masjid.
