The individual who would become known as Sai Baba received his famous name upon arriving in Shirdi. When he entered the Khandoba temple, a resident goldsmith and devotee named Mhalasapati greeted him with the words "Aavo Sai Baba," which means "Come, Sai Baba." When later asked his name during a commission's testimony, he simply replied, "They call me Sai Baba," confirming the name given to him by Mhalasapati.
