How did the author of Shri Sai Satcharita, Annasaheb, initially feel about having a Guru?

The preface in Chapter 0 reveals that Annasaheb's path to Guru devotion was not immediate. Based on an account he wrote about himself in the third chapter, he initially had no love for or devotion to a Guru. In fact, he used to think that the practice of 'making a Guru' was a fraud and took great pride in his own sense of doership.
