How did Sai Baba tailor his teachings for different devotees?

Sai Baba's method of instruction was highly personalized and varied greatly among his followers. As Chapter 19 describes, there was no limit to the types of initiation he offered. For some, he would prescribe spiritual practices like Jnaneshwari, Harivarada reading, or Guru Charitra study. For others, he would advise Ram-Vijay, meditation, or the study of the Chandogya or Gita. He would lovingly tie the Vishnu Sahasranama around some people's necks and give knowledge and detachment to others. This novelty in his instruction, delivered through direct words or even dreams, was unprecedented and catered to the unique needs of each of the eighteen castes of devotees who came to him.
