When Jog informed Sai Baba of Dev's complaint, Baba was not angry but rather surprised at Dev's inability to see the truth. According to Chapter 40, Baba explained precisely how he had kept his promise. He instructed Jog to ask Dev, "You did not recognize Me! Why then did you call Me?" Baba clarified that while he did not physically leave Shirdi in the worldly sense, he did attend the Udyapan.
