How did Sai Baba reinterpret the Gita verse about acquiring Knowledge, and why did he feel this was a more accurate understanding?

📖 Chapter 39

Sai Baba took the traditional interpretation presented by Nana—that service and questioning lead the wise to instruct a seeker in Knowledge—and offered a profound twist. As detailed in Chapter 39, Sai Baba suggested replacing the word 'Knowledge' (Jnana) with 'Ignorance' (Ajnana) in the verse. He argued that true Knowledge is self-existent and beyond words, so it cannot be "taught" like a subject. Instead, a Guru helps with the removal of Ignorance. He explained that Ignorance veils Knowledge like ash on fire or moss on water. By removing this veil, the ever-present Knowledge naturally shines through. This is why he believed his interpretation led to a truer awakening and realization.
