How did Sai Baba react when He learned that Dev felt deceived and disappointed?

When Jog communicated Dev's feelings of disappointment, Sai Baba reacted with surprise. According to Chapter 40, Baba asked Jog to tell Dev, "You did not recognize Me! Why then did you call Me?" Baba explained that although He did not physically leave His location in the worldly sense, He had indeed attended the Udyapan as promised. He revealed that He came in the guise of a Sanyasi, first alone and then later for the meal with two other companions, fulfilling His word exactly. Baba emphasized the sanctity of His promise, stating, "for the sake of My word, I would die; but the words from My mouth shall never be otherwise." This response clarified that the failure was in Dev's recognition, not in Baba's fulfillment of His promise.
