How did Sai Baba perceive himself, and what does Chapter 23 advise about judging saints?

📖 Chapter 23

According to Chapter 23, while many devotees considered Sai Baba to be an Incarnation (Avatar) because He displayed all the necessary signs, He himself maintained a position of profound humility. He would say, "I am a humble servant in the court of Allah," and his constant chants were "Allah Malik" (God is the Master). This chapter strongly advises against judging a saint by their external actions or circumstances. It explicitly states that one cannot understand the true state of a saint by their caste, behavior, or what they eat, because their inner reality is always beyond such superficial observations. Baba's own actions, like eating bread with onions, served as a lesson against such judgments.
