The friend of Kaka Mahajani had made it a strict condition of his visit that he would not offer any Dakshina. Sai Baba's handling of this situation was quite subtle and impactful. According to the account in Chapter 35, after the friend had already bowed, Baba asked for Dakshina, but pointedly only from Kaka Mahajani. Later in the afternoon, when they came to ask for permission to leave, Baba again requested Dakshina, this time specifying seventeen rupees, but once more, only from Kaka. The narrative explicitly states that Baba "asked nothing of the friend," which resulted in the friend feeling "restless in his mind," perhaps making him question his own rigid conditions.
