According to the introduction presented in Chapter 0, the individual later known as Sai Baba arrived in Shirdi as part of a wedding procession for Chandbhai's wife's nephew. The procession stopped in a garden near the Khandoba temple outside the village. Upon entering the temple, he met a gentleman named Mhalasapati, a local goldsmith and devotee of Khandoba. It was Mhalasapati who first welcomed him with the words "Aavo Sai Baba," which became his recognized name.
