According to the introductory chapter, the individual later known as Sai Baba came to Shirdi with a wedding procession for the nephew of Chandbhai's wife. The procession stopped in a garden near the Khandoba temple. Upon entering the temple, he met a gentleman named Mhalasapati, a goldsmith by caste and a resident of Shirdi.
