How did Sai Baba explain his presence at Dev's ceremony after Dev complained about being deceived?

📖 Chapter 40

When Jog presented Dev's letter of complaint, Sai Baba explained that he was fully aware of Dev's thoughts. As recounted in Chapter 40, Baba stated that while he did not leave Shirdi in a worldly sense, he absolutely did attend the Udyapan. He reminded Jog of his promise to Dev: "I said I would come with two others, and I went with two others." Baba then detailed his appearance in a Sanyasi's guise, noting he came once alone and then returned for the meal with his companions. He emphatically declared that his words shall never be false and he would rather die than fail to keep a promise.
