How did Sai Baba actually show up at Dev's Udyapan ceremony, and why didn't Dev realize it was Him?

๐Ÿ“– Chapter 40

Sai Baba attended Dev's Udyapan ceremony in a miraculous way by taking on a different form. As detailed in Chapter 40, Baba appeared in the guise of a Sanyasi. He first came alone before the meal, which led Dev to believe he was a guest seeking money. The Sanyasi then promised to return with two others for the meal, and he did exactly that, arriving at noon with two companions. All three were served and ate their fill. However, Dev failed to recognize him because his mind was veiled by what the text calls a "veil of Maya," or delusion. Dev was expecting Baba to appear in a more obvious form and was further confused because this Sanyasi had previously visited to collect funds, which clouded his perception and led him to mistakenly believe Baba had not kept his promise.
