How did Sai Baba actually fulfill his promise to attend Dev's Udyapan ceremony?

Sai Baba fulfilled his promise by attending the ceremony in the guise of a Sanyasi, accompanied by two other men. In Chapter 40, Baba explains this to Jog after receiving Dev's complaint. Baba stated, "I said I would come with two others, and I went with two others." He first appeared alone as a Sanyasi, causing Dev some apprehension, and then returned at noon for the meal with his two companions. Despite being physically present and partaking in the meal, Dev remained under a "state of delusion" and failed to identify him. Baba emphasized the infallibility of his word, declaring, "Look, for the sake of My word, I would die; but the words from My mouth shall never be otherwise."
