How did Sai Baba actually attend Dev's Udyapan ceremony after promising he would?

Sai Baba fulfilled his promise to attend Rao Bahadur M. W. Pradhan's (Dev's) Udyapan ceremony by appearing in the guise of a Sanyasi, accompanied by two other people. As explained in Chapter 40, Baba first appeared alone as a Sanyasi, at which time Dev told him to return at noon for the meal. The Sanyasi then returned at the appointed time with two companions, and they were all served a satisfying meal. Dev, however, failed to recognize him. Baba later confirmed this to Jog, stating, "I said I would come with two others, and I went with two others... do you not remember the Sanyasi's guise?"
