Initially, Maharaj's approach to healing was direct and physical. The introduction in Chapter 0 states that he used to give medicine to people and would never take money for it. He was so dedicated that if a patient was not being cared for properly, he would go and nurse them himself. However, he later stopped this practice. He explained to the writer that he stopped giving medicine and started chanting 'Hari Hari,' through which he 'met Hari.' Subsequently, he began giving only Udi, or ash, from which people also found benefit, signifying a shift towards a more faith-based and spiritual form of healing.
How did Maharaj's practice of healing people change over time?
