How did Maharaj's method for helping people change from when he first arrived?

When Maharaj first arrived, his method of helping people involved practical, physical care. Chapter 0 explains that he would give people medicines without ever taking money for them. If he saw that a patient was not being cared for properly, he would go and personally tend to them himself. However, his approach evolved over time. The text states that later, Maharaj stopped giving medicine and instead began to give only Udi, or ash, which people also found beneficial for their ailments.
