How did Kashiram's practice of giving Dakshina to Sai Baba evolve, and what was the spiritual lesson behind it?

📖 Chapter 0

Initially, Kashiram's practice of giving Dakshina was rooted in deep devotion, but it became tainted with pride. Chapter 0 explains that he was so eager for Maharaj to take his money that he would feel 'very bad and tears would come to his eyes' if Baba didn't. This attachment to being a giver was a spiritual obstacle. To remedy this, Sai Baba orchestrated a period of financial hardship for Kashiram, during which Baba ironically increased his demands for Dakshina. Kashiram was forced to borrow until he had nothing left, leading to the profound realization that he did not possess the power to give. After this humbling lesson, his anxiety about Baba taking Dakshina vanished and his financial situation improved.
