Amir Shakkar was understandably miserable about staying in the Chavadi. The conditions were terrible, with dampness, wind, and cold, which aggravated the rheumatism seizing his body, and his mind was in turmoil. However, as described in Chapter 22, Baba's medicine was simply His word. Baba gave him firm instructions not to worry about the wind, rain, dampness, or the unevenness of the place. Amir was to accept these circumstances without complaint. Despite the external conditions being contrary to his health, Amir held a certain internal faith. He accepted Baba's word as the ultimate medicine and, as a result, was able to stay there happily for nine months.
