One powerful way to foster community and devotion is through the practice of Parayan or Saptah, which involves the devotional reading of a Guru's biography. As described in Chapter 0, studying and performing Parayans of a detailed poetic biography is a form of Guru service. When devotees gather to study and perform these readings, the writer gains the merit of serving God in humanity, and the participating devotees also achieve the purpose of their lives. The Sadguru accepts this service from the congregation of devotees through the study of biographies written about him, strengthening the communal bond.
