According to the preface, one significant way a Sadguru accepts service is through books. Devotees can engage in this service by studying and performing Parayans, or devotional readings, of detailed biographies. As described in Chapter 0, when devotees study and perform Parayans of a Guru's biography, the writer gains merit for their Guru service, and the other devotees participating also achieve the purpose of their lives. This collective act of study creates a congregation of devotees and is seen as serving God in humanity (Jan-Janardan), thereby fostering a strong spiritual community.
