According to the preface in Chapter 0, a Sadguru accepts service from devotees through books in two distinct ways. The first is when the Guru creates a great work themselves. The second, more common method, is by having their biographies written by devotees. These biographies then become tools for service. The writer performs Guru service by creating the detailed work, and further merit is gained when other devotees study and perform Parayans (devotional readings) of it.
