According to the preface in Chapter 0, one of the primary ways a Sadguru accepts service from devotees is through books. This can be achieved by having biographies written by devotees and then accepting service in the form of study and Parayans from both the writer and the congregation. By studying and performing Parayans of a detailed poetic biography, the writer performs Guru service. When other devotees also engage in this study, the writer gains the merit of serving God in humanity, and those devotees also work towards achieving the purpose of their lives, thus building a spiritually-focused community.
