According to the teachings in Chapter 37, there is a clear causal link between ignorance, duality, and the fear of death. Ignorance, or 'Avidya,' is identified as the root cause of all suffering because it establishes the perception of manifoldness and difference, which is duality. The text warns, "He who holds even the slightest view of difference will fall into the sufferings of birth and death." This obsession with duality is precisely where fear enters. Therefore, to break the cycle of birth, death, and fear, one must acquire knowledge ('Vidya') through the Guru and scriptures. This knowledge removes ignorance, which in turn dissolves the illusion of duality, leading to the cessation of birth and death.
